Smartboard FAQ
When I connect my SMARTBoard to a MacBook I only see the NLC logo
The new MacBook has a much higher screen resolution set on its display that your projector cannot handle.
To fix the problem:
On the top right hand area of the laptop screen you should see a monitor icon231007_140046_0.gif?src=.PNG

Click on it and from the drop down menu select Turn on Mirroring
Your computer will now match its screen resolution to that of your projector.
This may cause some of your desktop icons and folders to look much larger.
When you disconnect the projector the MacBook display should return to its former settings.

Yes. You can install SMART Board software on a computer that isn't connected to a whiteboard. Because SMART Board software is royalty-free, there is no limit to the number of computers on which the software can be installed. However, the Floating Tools, SMART Keyboard and SMART Recorder components of SMART Board software are available only on computers connected to a SMART Board interactive whiteboard, a Rear Projection SMART Board interactive whiteboard, or a Sympodium interactive lectern.

If you use Notebook software on a Macintosh computer that's not connected to a SMART interactive product you will receive this message. Click on Iagree to continue20207_215148_0.jpg

My SmartBoard light stays red. Can I check my hardware connections using SMART Board software?
Yes. Click and hold the SMART Board icon on the Dock on an Apple Mac computer and in the system tray on a PC and select Open Control Panel. The SMART Board Control Panel opens, displaying important information about your interactive product. The first thing the control panel software does it checks the connectivity between the board and the computer. On the Boards tab of the control panel window, you can check your hardware connections by glancing at the status icon:
14206_105022_0.gif?src=.PICT        indicates a properly functioning projected unit
14206_105022_1.gif?src=.PICT        indicates a properly functioning non-projected unit
14206_105022_2.gif?src=.PICT        indicates a non-functioning unit
On most occasions just opening up the control panel software will re-establish a connection between the SmartBoard and your computer and the SmartBoard light will turn green.
If the SmartBoard light still does not turn green try:
?       restarting the computer and checking the connection again
?       check all your cables are correctly inserted
?       reinstall the latest SmartBoard software

A number of schools have reported this issue with new cloned Macbooks.
Downloading and installing the latest version of the SMARTBoard software has solved the problem in all cases.

Can I use a Notebook file that was created on a different operating system?
Yes. With version 8.0 or later of SMART Board software, you can share Notebook files with people using Notebook software on a different platform. As long as everyone has the latest release of SMART Board software, the same Notebook file works for people using a Windows, UNIX, Linux or Macintosh computer. For example, you could create a Notebook file on a Windows computer and someone with a Macintosh computer would be able to open, modify and save the file.
