Genre:
This book is an example of Manga and not another graphic novel.

What’s the story?

In volume one of Death Note, Ryuk the Shinigami (Death god) “accidentally” drops one of his Death Notes into the human world. Death Notes are the Shinigami’s way of killing off humans. One of Japan’s top students - Light Yagami finds it on the ground outside his school. At first he thinks it’s just a sick joke, but when he follows the instructions Ryuk left inside, he finds out that it actually works, and that he has the power to end whoever’s life he sees fit.

What are the main themes and issues in the book?

It is a tense, thought provoking tale that asks the question what is evil and demonstrates how easy it is to blur the line between justice and murder.

Is it for me?
I think this book is very interesting.  It gives nods to several religions.  It is also a very gripping book with new plot developments at each turn and also has a dry, dark sense of humour. Overall it’s a great, entertaining book.  Just remember to read it from right to left and not left to right like a normal book.
